「個人」から「関係」へひらく、学生のためのプラットフォーム始動
京都芸術大学 舞台芸術研究センターは、2026年度より、学生のための舞台芸術プラットフォーム「U THEATRE LAB. KYOTO」を始動します。
わたしたちは、劇場の客席のようにUの字に集い、ピアラーニングとコレクティブの実践を基盤とした、思考と対話の場を立ち上げます。
舞台芸術は、さまざまな分野が接続する領域であると同時に、共同によって成り立つ営みです。現在、国際的な創作の現場では、劇場の芸術監督がコレクティブを採用するなど複数性を前提とした体制が見られ、また創作チームも、演出家中心主義から変化し、文学、映像、音楽、身体表現に加えて、民俗学や宗教学、哲学、ケア、さらにはメディアやAIといったテクノロジーまで、多様な領域の担い手が関わりながら一つの作品を立ち上げています。こうした国際的なコミュニケーションや制作環境と呼応するのが、水平的な関係性にもとづく、流動的で領域横断的な有機的つながりです。このような変化のなかで、創作は個人の能力に閉じるものではなく、関係性のなかで更新されていく営みへと意識的に移行しつつあります。
他者の言葉に触れ、自分の思考が拡張し、さらに別の言葉として応答する。その往復のなかで、まだ形を持たない考えが立ち上がっていきます。異なる領域や関心をもつ学生たちが、大学の枠を越えて出会い、互いに支え合いながらアーティストや研究者の活動に接続していくことで、創作と学びの重心は「個人」から「関係」へとひらかれていきます。
「U THEATRE LAB. KYOTO」は、そのプロセスそのものを引き受け、共有するためのプラットフォームです。ここでの出会いや学びが、それぞれの取り組みを支える足場となり、新たな関係や創作へとかたちを変えていく契機となることを志向しています。
こうした場に関心を持つ学生のみなさんと出会い、ともに思考し、試みを重ねていけることを楽しみにしています。
Lab.をかたちづくる、3つのシリーズ
U-Table | Dialogue（対話）
思考をゆるやかに共有する、少人数での対話の場。ときにゲストを交えながら作品や上演の根底や先にある多角的なテーマを扱います。初年度は「上演分析」「ドラマトゥルグ」や「観客」についてカジュアルな雰囲気で深い対話までじっくりと向き合います。ぜひ、みなさんが話したいテーマも持ち寄ってください。
U-Session| Practice（実践）
実践者や技術者の思考と感覚を手がかりにしたミニワークショップやプロジェクト型の集まり。5月は舞台照明デザイナーの魚森理恵さんと光をつくる人の感覚を、暗闇を起点に感じ、考えるワークショップ。6月には野外舞台など実験的な創作の場を思考と技術で支える舞台監督の大田和司さんと「劇場という箱の外」での表現の模索方法について考えてみます。ゆくゆくはここからプロジェクトが生まれるかも！

U-Seeds | Inquiry（探究）
公募による支援型プログラム。4月より開始する第1期の公募テーマは「上演分析」。上演形式の作品鑑賞にかかるチケット代を支援し、観劇を通して素材を集め、それらを他者と共有しながら新たな視点を獲得していきます。
作品を観たとき、「なんとなくいい」「理由はわからないけれど面白い」そんな感覚が残ることがあります。このプログラムでは、その感覚を「言葉にできないもの」として流してしまうのではなく、ひとつずつ丁寧にたどり、言葉にしていくことを試みます。
このプログラムの上演を書くという方法は、ただ作品を評価するための行為ではありません。私たちはいったい何を見ていたのか。どこで立ち止まり、どこに心をつかまれたのか。そして、その感覚はどのような構造や関係性の中から生まれていたか。創作や実践に関わる学生はもちろん、舞台芸術を通して社会や世界について考えてみたい学生も歓迎します。感想にとどまらず、他者と共有し、対話を重ねながら、次の創作や研究へとつながる思考と言葉を育てていきます。まだ形になっていない関心や疑問という「種（Seeds）」を育てていくことを目的に、対話の場「U-Table」と連動しながら展開します。

Launching U THEATRE LAB. KYOTO
A platform for students: From the “Individual” to the “Relational”
Starting in the 2026 academic year, the Kyoto Performing Arts Center is proud to launch U THEATRE LAB. KYOTO, a dedicated performing arts platform for students.
Inspired by the U-shaped curve of theater seating, this is a space for inquiry and dialogue rooted in peer learning and collective practice.
The contemporary international performing arts scene is evolving toward plurality. We see a shift away from “director-centric” models toward collectives and collaborative systems. Today, works are built through the intersection of diverse fields: from literature, film, and music to folklore, theology, philosophy, and care, as well as technologies like media and AI.
In response to these global movements, we embrace fluid, transdisciplinary connections based on horizontal relationships. Creation is no longer confined to individual ability; it is an act of constant renewal within relationships.
At U THEATRE LAB. KYOTO, as you engage with the words of others, your perspective expands, prompting you to respond with your own. Through this exchange, ideas that have yet to take shape begin to emerge. By bringing together students from across disciplinary and institutional boundaries, we shift the center of gravity in creation and research from the “Individual” to the “Relational.”
This platform is designed to host and share that very process. We aim for the encounters and learning found here to serve as a foundation for your own practice—a catalyst for new forms of creation and collaboration. We look forward to meeting students who share this vision, thinking and experimenting side by side.
The Three Series of the Lab
U-Table | Dialogue
A space for small-group dialogue to share insights in a relaxed setting. We explore multifaceted themes underlying or extending beyond performance, occasionally joined by guest experts. In our first year, we will engage in deep yet casual conversations on “Performance Analysis,” “Dramaturgy,” and “The Audience.” We invite you to bring the themes you wish to explore.
U-Session | Practice
A series of mini-workshops and project-based gatherings guided by the insights and sensibilities of practitioners and technicians.
May: A workshop with lighting designer Rie Uomori(魚森理恵) to rethink the sensation of “creating light,” starting from “darkness”.
June: A session with stage manager Kazushi Ota（大田和司）, who facilitates experimental creation in site-specific and open-air settings. Together, we will explore expressive methods “beyond the black box,” drawing on his expertise in bridging technical craft and creative planning.
U-Seeds | Inquiry
An open-call support program. The theme for the first phase is “Performance Analysis.” This program provides financial support for tickets, allowing students to gather “material” through viewing and gain new perspectives by sharing them with others.
When we engage with a performance, we often feel “it was just good” or “interesting, but I don’t know why.” This program encourages you not to let those feelings slip away as “indescribable,” but to carefully trace and articulate them.
Writing about a performance is more than evaluation; it is an investigation into what we perceived, where we paused, and how those sensations were structured. We welcome not only student practitioners but also students who wish to examine society and the world through the lens of performing arts. Beyond simple reviews, we will cultivate the vocabulary that leads to your next creative or research project. This series works in tandem with U-Table to nurture the “seeds” of your unformed interests.
